Wow....I have to say that the main emotion I felt yesterday for my birthday was blessed. I've been feeling lonely here in SoCal (until recently because I'm starting to make some great friends), but yesterday snapped me out of that. I was blown away by the number of emails, phone calls, texts, myspace and facebook messages I received for my birthday. I had to stop to realize I've made some great friends in MN, NorCal, SoCal, The Nest, etc. So thank you everyone who reached out to wish me a happy birthday. It meant more than you know.
Secondly, I'm sorry I didn't get back to most of you. I know this may sound lame to those who live here, but the earthquake we had yesterday shook me in more ways than one! It was my first earthquake where I was so close to the epicenter. I've lived through one other earthquake and that was on our vacation to Hawaii. It was large and the power went out on the whole island and it was raining and it was a nightmare, but it was just J and I in the room when it happened. Yesterday freaked me out because I was in class and there were so many reactions. I was standing up to leave when we felt the small rumbling. We were all like "oh cute, it's an earthquake"....but then it stopped...and suddenly the room jolted one way then the next and what freaked me out was that everyone started jumping under desks and running for doorways because they thought it was "the big one". It scared the crap out of me because I'm not used to that kind of thing. Give me a category F4 tornado any day of the week and I can handle it. Why? Because you have warning. You can run to hide before it hits (in most cases). I had this sudden realization that if the big one really did hit...well, we're screwed. Why? Because it happens so fast and you lose your bearings for a second and if the big one really did hit...well, would you be able to get to safety before disaster strikes? I don't really know. So, I was a bit shook up yesterday just by my train of thought (I'm miss negative as most of you know...always thinking the worst). So I apologize for not emailing back or calling, etc. I will be working hard today to make it up to everyone.
Thank you all for the well wishes. You all rock. I have a million posts to write, but I've been behind on everything from bills to laundry because we've been busy with A and her visit and some other stuff going on, on that front. But that's a whole other post.
