Realization

What's it like being an insta-parent you ask? Weird...Surreal......to say the least. I always knew I was an adult, but I had this mental image of myself that was shot out the window this weekend. J's daughter came to visit us and we took her shopping. In to Abercrombie, and American Eagle, and Hollister we go. And as I'm shopping there with an 11 year old....I realize.....I'm my Mother. When we used to go shopping and she would hang out with me and I would tell her to buy something and she would say..."I'm too old for these clothes".....No....you aren't, I'd say. Well,......I realized this weekend that I'm too old for the mental image I had of myself in those clothes. All the girls working there and shopping there looked at me weird like I was shopping there for myself....and I'm thinking...no, I'm here shopping for my 11 year old step daughter.....wow....I knew we all had to grow up sometime...it's just weird when it has to happen in one day. I now know I must stick with the Banana Republics and Ann Taylors of the world....and no more thinking I can wear the stuff that the kids are wearing these days.

And man, are kids expensive these days! Crazy how fast they go through money. I'm sure we were expensive in our day too, I just haven't had to deal with it up until now.

All in all we had a good weekend. We went to Fisherman's Wharf on Saturday. We ate at the Boudin (I think it's called) Sourdough Bread Company restaurant. It is really good there and we usually go when we are there. It was so cold and windy though that we went to a few candy stores there and then came home. We then went to the mall for my surreal experience. Wow, was that an expensive trip. Today we made a big breakfast and then went to the Exploratorium in San Francisco. We also went to Target and a sporting goods store to buy some tennis shoes for J's daughter.

Man....I remember now that I HATE the city. I lived there for over a year...but man do I hate it with a passion now. Sitting in traffic for 2 hours to go to the Exploratorium......HATE IT!!!! We spent most of our day in the car, sitting in traffic......OMG!!!! I never want to go into the city again unless my life depends on it. The damn Bay Bridge is the worst....avoid that bridge at all costs people.....plus it's an earthquake death trap. The weather is reason number two. It was in the 80's and sunny when we left the house on Sat. to go get A at SFO. Then it's 50's and cold and windy and sucky as usual in the city. My God, why does anyone want to live there? Why in the hell did I ever want to live there? Why is land so expensive there? It's not like it's nice? I JUST DON'T GET IT PEOPLE!!!!

All in all we had a really fun weekend...but I must go back to work tomorrow...blah...and J and A are on their own! They can use the time to bond. J is so cute around his daughter. He tries to act all tough, but he has a soft spot for her. So cute!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend and if and when we get some pictures, I'll post them up!

Busy Month

June is a busy month....

J's daughter is coming out here from Texas this weekend. We are looking forward to spending time with her and catching up on what she's been up to. She is here until the 21st, then my sister comes into town for a week to visit too! I'm looking forward to her coming out here....there are a million things to do out here...so we should have a good time. So for the next 3 weeks, I will have visitors....eek!

Jen is leaving me.... :( But I am so happy for her!! She is off to India to get married to her lover boy!!! I will miss her dearly, but I wish nothing but the best for you!!!! So, we are going to get together this week for lunch or dinner before she leaves. I cant wait for your wedding in Hawaii later this year!! Jason and I will make it if we have to give blood to pay for the trip! haha!

I also have to start planning my future as far as school and work go. It's going to be a lot of work and planning, but I know we will manage.

So, it should be interesting to juggle everything this June, but it will be fun anyway!

Happy Birthday Kelley!! And Happy Birthday Angie on the 9th!! If I've forgotten anyone, I'm sorry!! I'll try to do better!!! ;)

I did it!!

I went to college in MN for a few classes...and never did anything with it. I finally have a goal in mind....and I did it! In the 3 business days this week, I enrolled in school, went to see the school counselor to help guide me, and registered for my first 2 classes for the fall semester! Yep, I'm going half time even!! I have to complete 13 classes by the end of the Spring semester 2008. It's a tough challenge, but I am more than determined. I've planned out a tentative schedule for that time frame...but we'll see how well it works out.

It feels good to be signed up for school again and to know that I have a goal to work toward. Yay!
