Martha has emerged yet again.....

I decided to attempt to make twinkies at home. I love twinkies...but they are not good for you. So, I thought maybe ones made at home would have less preservatives, etc. in them. This is my first batch ever, so please forgive that they are a little sloppy. They taste soooo good...J and I cant stop eating them....but Tivo seems to think differently.

Bright, New, Shiny....Blog!

Hello everyone,

I will still be keeping this blog...but I have another blog I just started to chronicle my new life as a vegetarian. Some days it may be more exciting than others. As I try new recipes, etc., I will post how they were, if J liked them, etc. That way, if you want to try it, you can! It's still in it's infancy, but someday it hopes to be all growed up like this blog. ha!

Life Change

I've decided to make a major life change, and I'm pretty serious about it. I'm going to become a vegetarian. I watched the most horrific video of my life online today about animal cruelty and the food we eat. I cant believe that we as humans treat animals, that we are going to eat, the way we do. I'm not a huge tree hugging hippie type person typically, but I believe that animals have feelings and deserve to be treated that way. Now, don't get me wrong, I know most humans eat meat to sustain life, although not necessary, and have as far back as man can remember. But, the big difference is, way back in the day, people had to kill their own food. They used every piece of the animal for survival, and most times, they thanked the animal for giving up it's life so they could survive. I am appalled at the way we treat animals we are going to eat.....these animals are giving up their life, so we can eat...do they not deserve dignity and respect for that? How can we call ourselves humans, and torture these poor animals, all so we can have a cheeseburger. After seeing that treatment, I cried....I cried for those poor animals who didn't deserve what they got so I could eat them. I don't want to eat them anymore after that.

There is one thing that I'm torn about...and that is dairy. I don't drink milk, so that is no big deal for me. But I do like dairy products, and eggs. Those cows and hens were treated terribly....but how does one survive without any of that stuff? I feel like those things are needed to get by in life, but I don't want to eat them knowing animals suffered so I could eat it.

This is going to be a major lifestyle change for me, but I'm very serious about it. J doesn't know yet as he hasn't been home today, but we can work something out. If he still chooses to eat meat, that is his decision...and we can work together to figure out our menus. I feel very strongly about this, but at the same time, it is my decision, and no one else's, so I will not preach to people about it.

Wish me luck as this is going to be hard work at first, but I hear it gets easier as you go. Not only will I not be torturing animals for my own satisfaction, but I will be much healthier in the long run too.

It's swap time!!

I was turned on to a candyswapping group by knit-whit a while back. I signed up and have been waiting for the next swap to come along....and....it's here! It's the Spring Fever Swap this time around! I must come up with spring fever themed candy for my swap partner Jacqueline in New York. Dani was lucky enough to pull my name ;) - she is also from New York I believe! So, it's an East/West Coast swap for me both ways! It was anonymous last time, I heard, but this time we were told who our swap partners are. I'm excited to go out and start shopping for candy! Ready, Set, Swap! :)

Movie? Perhaps

It's Saturday....the day AFTER The Da Vinci Code came out, and I still havent seen it!! I'm very excited to see it, but I have mixed feelings about it. I read the book when it came out, and loved it!! However, they usually ruin books when they make them into movies. I had heard a long long time ago that Tom Hanks was going to play the lead role, and I have had mixed feeling about it. I just didnt picture him as the lead when I read the book. However, he is a good actor, so he may surprise me. My Mom saw it and told me it was really good, so I'm excited. So...we may go see it this afternoon. Not sure yet as we have many things going on, and guests staying with us from MN. I really want to see it though and may make time regardless!!

Has anyone seen it yet? Thoughts? Dont give too much away though!! ;)

Yummy!!!!!!!!!!

All I can say is......YUM!!! We finally went to Ruth's Chris for dinner last night for our anniversary. We had a great time. We started the evening with a drink. J had a beer, and I had a super yummy lemon drop martini! My fave. For dinner we both had the filet mignon (I got the petite, J got the original size)....yum, yum, yum. We had their awesome sauteed mushrooms and sweet potato casserole for our sides. Doubld yum. (If you havent figured out by now, I LOVE this place!) We had coffee and carmelized banana cream pie for dessert, which was on the house because we were celebrating our anniversary! We had great conversation and a great evening all around!!

So one thing happened that I found really odd...we sat down and there were these two guys sitting at a table across the room from us. Ok, so those who know me, know that I think I am far from attractive....but....these guys kept staring at me and talking to each other...and it was super obvious. So I felt uncomfortable....and then I look up and one of them is taking a picture of me with his cell phone camera. That pissed me off...they finally left though about 20 minutes after we got there. I still have no idea what that was all about.

Oh well, we had a blast and it was soooo good! Yay for Ruth's Chris!

A day with many meanings

Today is.......

Cinco de Mayo......and.......

My 1st Anniversary!!! Woo hoo!!! What a stressful, fun, exciting, lively, (shall I go on?) year we had! I'm so excited to be married to you, and I love you very much!

I'm home sick today and J's present is at work...oops. So he'll have to get it on Monday. I am super excited to be going to Ruth's Chris for dinner, I am not excited however, that I'm sick and can't taste the delicious food! boo!!!!

Also.....Happy Belated 10th Anniversary to Matt and Paula! Hope it was fabulous! I dont know how you put up with my brother for so long my dear!! You are a saint! ;)

UPDATE: We had to postpone our yummy anniversary dinner. :( I have absolutely no energy what so ever to go out. And for those who know me. You KNOW I am sick if I pass up Ruth's Chris. We rescheduled for tomorrow, so I'm hoping to feel better by then. Keep your fingers crossed for me people.
